A postdoctoral position is available at the University of Miami Miller of Medicine to investigate the molecular mechanism of vesicle fusion by direct force measurements (see Abdulreda et. al., (2008) Biophys J.94:648-55). Our laboratory addresses emerging questions at the interface between physics and biology with a focus cellular processes such as adhesion and vesicle trafficking. Our research is funded by the National Institute of Health and the Florida Department of Health. The laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art biophysical instruments, including a combined AFM/confocal microsopy system and a photonic force microscope. Candidates should have a background in biophysics and/or applied physics and be highly motivated to work in a multidisciplinary environment. Communication skills and good command of the English language, both spoken and written are required. Postgraduates who have not yet graduated may apply if their public defense is scheduled for early 2011.
